NEW FOLKSONNE
Die in der Galerie Mirko Mayer zusehenden Arbeiten sind durch 250x 260 cm große Scheunentore, die in ihrer Machart durchaus an das Bühnenbild von Karl Moiks Musikantenstadl erinnern, räumlich in mehrere Gruppen getrennt. Im Eingangsbereich trifft der Betrachter auf eine Serie von Selbstportraits Erbachers, auf denen der Künstler, im Schneegestöber der Alpen stehend, die eingeübten Gesten der Volksmusik-Moderatoren und Schlagerstars imitiert.
Auf dem Boden davor liegt eine grob gesägte Holzplatte, auf deren Unterseite Glühlampen blinken, wobei dem Zuschauer der genaue Schriftzug der Leuchten verborgen bleibt.
m Hauptraum befindet sich die dazu korrespondierende Arbeit „New Folksonne“. Diese besteht, angelehnt an die Reklamen und Durchgänge, wie man sie von jeder Kirmes kennt, aus einem drei Meter hohen Holzgestell und einer Aluminiumplatte, auf welcher bunt blinkende Glühlampen den Schriftzug „Today I am your friend“ formen.
Im hinteren Teil der Galerieräume hängen abschließend fünf gleich große Ölgemälde (je 75 x 55 cm), die von Erbacher in China in Auftrag gegeben wurden. Als Vorlage für das Motiv der Bilder, ein Enzianblütenkelch, diente das Platzhalterbild eines Rahmens aus dem Obi-Baumarkt, bei welchem Erbacher die gelbe Gerberablüte durch das Motiv der Alpenblume ersetzt hat.
Erbacher karikiert anhand der im Galerieraum inszenierten Alpenidylle verschiedene Stereotypen einer volkstümlichen Romantik, deren übertriebene Künstlichkeit dem Betrachter humorvoll und bildhaft vor Augen geführt wird. (Chantal Blatzheim, 2009)
NEW FOLKSONNE
The works now on display in Mirko Mayer Gallery are separated into different groupings by huge barn doors, each 250 cm high and 260 cm wide. The doors' design is reminiscent of the stage setting of Karl Moik's show "Musikantenstadl". At the entrance of the exhibition the visitor is confronted with a series of self-portraits of Erbacher. Here the artist imitates, in the middle of an Alpine snowstorm, the well-practised gestures of the hosts and stars of folklore shows.
On the floor in front of these portraits lies a roughly sawn, wooden board with lights
blinking on its underside. The words formed by the blinking lights are however hidden from the viewer's gaze.
The actual work of art is located in the exhibition's main space. "New Folksonne [New Folk Sun]" (2008) consists of a wooden scaffolding, three metres high, and a sheet of aluminium. The structure imitates the bill-boards and thoroughfares we all are familiar with from fairs and exhibition grounds. Coloured lights are attached onto the aluminium sheet, spelling the blinking message "Today I am your friend".
Finally, five equally sized oil paintings „50x70“ (75x55 cm each) are hanging on a wall in the back of the gallery. Erbacher had these paintings made to order in China. A generic photo, serving as a placeholder in picture frames sold by an OBI DIY superstore, became the source for the paintings' motive a gentian flower. Erbacher had the original yellow marguerite removed and replaced with the classical Alpine motive of the gentian. The artist uses such Alpine idylls as are on display in the gallery space to make fun of the various stereotypes of a folksy romanticism, conveying both humorously and poignantly its over-exaggerated artificiality.
